Try a Tri!
Our Try-a-Tri event was rescheduled after the original date saw horrendous snow,rain,wet,cold,yuk.. But we were all smiling when we turned up @ Moray Leisure Centre (MLC) in glorious sunshine!!

So - 8 of us headed into the bar area (highly appropriate) for a brief Powerpoint presentation about triathlonscotland, Moray Firth Triathletes (MFT) and the basics on how to prepare for a triathlon event. The 9th person around, Iain, had run in from Keith (I think) - part of his Ironman training! So, he was allowed to shower and change and joined us a bit later to help organise people..

After Powerpoint - we moved to another area to look at and talk about the bike, kit and setting up transition. That done - everyone was unleashed on a make-shift transition area to setup their bikes and other kit ready for our event.

Into the pool - we had 3 lanes booked so separated people into ability groups and they swam for approx 10 minutes.. After being bopped on the head (gently!) they dived out of the pool and into Transition.. Everyone coped well getting changed and ready - and all set off on approx 10k bike ride. The only people (or should I say PERSON) who went further than 10k was someone (you know who you are!!!) who went the wrong way.. But a pretty fast cyclist - so managed more distance and still met up with the main group for the run.. The group set-off to run together - super fast Ironman Deek trying to curb his speed to stay with the group! Some people managed 1 lap some managed 2 laps - but everyone made it back to transition - with "sort of" smiles - not sure if they were grimaces?? ;-)

Lots of genuine smiles at the end and a great sense of achievement.

We all went upstairs for soup and sandwiches and a chat/gossip about how it all went - Triathlon is not all that bad after all!
We applied a liveral amount of pressure on the newbies to enroll for the Turriff Triathlon - with what seemed like positive responses. Was that just the adrenaline?

Many thanks to all who turned up! There was a lovely, friendly atmosphere - strangely 6 girls and 2 boys! I thought it important to report that statistic to encourage more boys in future! ? !

Many many thanks to Russell for organising the Leisure Centre - the pool, transition and lovely food afterwards. A lot of work - THX Russell!

Most people asked if we could do something similar once a month - so we will try to do that! Watch this space..

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR MAKING THIS FIRST MFT EVENT A SUCCESS ;-)
